The club has simple goals. We want to promote competitive snow sports, particularly for children and teenagers. Ski racing, free style skiing, and boarding are all supported.
We intend to provide events for athletes of all ages and skill levels. For the more serious athletes, the club will provide assistance with coaching and competitive career management. For the less experienced athletes, the club will provide introductory events, advice and an opportunity to get more serious about their chosen snow sport if they desire.
Our initial event was the June 2006 Snowplanet Race Challenge Series. Sixty skiers from eight different schools in the region are competed in slalom at Snowplanet over 4 weeks. The emphasis of these races was fun, participation and sportsmanship. For many of the racers, this was their very first exposure to organized ski racing. The format is designed to be inclusive of all ages and abilities – a dinner and prize giving are all part of the event.
Look out for more on the snow events in 2007!
Specialist coaching is also taking place on a regular basis for athletes who wish to compete in national competitions over the New Zealand winter or all year round at the Snowplanet venue.
Our last goal is to create an inclusive social environment
for both adult and younger members. Not all of our activities will be on the
snow!
